# What is HEIC?
HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is Apple's default photo format since iOS 11. It offers:
- 50% smaller file sizes than JPG
- Better quality at the same file size
- Support for live photos and image sequences
# Why Windows Can't Open HEIC
Windows doesn't natively support HEIC. You'll see an error like "This file format is not supported" when trying to open iPhone photos.
Microsoft's Solution (Costs Money)
Microsoft offers HEIC extensions in the Windows Store, but the video codec costs $0.99. There's a better way.
# Convert HEIC to JPG Online (Free)
- Open our HEIC to JPG converter
- Drag and drop your HEIC files (or click to browse)
- Download as JPG - instant conversion
Why Use Superconverter?
- No file size limit for basic conversions
- Batch processing - convert multiple files at once
- Preserves quality - no unnecessary compression
- Works on any device - phone, tablet, or PC
# Prevent HEIC on iPhone
Want to avoid this problem entirely? Change your iPhone settings:
- Go to Settings > Camera
- Tap Formats
- Select Most Compatible
Your iPhone will now save photos as JPG instead of HEIC.
# When to Keep HEIC
HEIC isn't bad - it's actually great for:
- Saving storage on your iPhone
- Keeping original quality
- Sharing with other Apple users
Only convert to JPG when you need Windows/Android compatibility.
